Safeguarding Statement

St John and St Nicolas Schools Federation is committed to protect and safeguard the welfare of all of the children in its care and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. “The welfare of the child is paramount” (Children Act 1989)

The schools have a statutory duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and are actively involved in protecting children by early identification of children who may be vulnerable or at risk of harm.

The schools educate children about managing risks and improving their resilience through the curriculum.

Our schools are a safe environment for children and are committed to managing any situation where there are child welfare concerns.

This means that we have a Child Protection Policy in place, which is available on our federation website.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our children are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

Our designated persons for child protection are:

St John's - Mrs Whiting (Head of School)

St Nic's - Mrs Thornton-Allen (Head of School)

Our deputy designated persons for child protection are:

Mr Harvey - Executive Headteacher

Mrs Blakemore - Inclusion Leader

Mrs Stewart - Foundation Stage Leader

Mrs O'Rourke - Family School Support Worker
