Book Week 2023
Book Week 2023
The aim of Book Week this year was to raise the profile of reading for pleasure.
Have a look at the Book Week Song, "I'm going to read a book today!" recorded at St John's, to see how much the whole school really LOVE reading! Huge thanks go to Mrs Jones and Mrs Howell.
The children learnt lots from author, Teresa Heapy, who launched the week at St John's. She worked with all year groups and inspired children to create their own story characters.
Children and staff all dressed up as their favourite book characters. Where's Wally was simply everywhere and it was amazing to see the huge variety of characters from Harry Potter to The enormous crocodile!
We loved seeing the children's Extreme Reading photos and they really proved that you can read just about anyway, all you need is a book!
We were very lucky to be able to enlist the support of 2 parents from the Literary world to present workshops for the children.
Mrs Lawson, a book editor, worked with KS1 classes to give them an insight into the editing process. She set them to work spotting mistakes in a new text for Oxford Reading Tree.
Ms Davies, who works for Living Pictures, showed the children how books are adapted for blind and visually impaired children. The children had a go at using Braille to write there own names.
At the end of the week we had a Book Swap Shop, manned by the Year 2 children. Thank you to all the parents who donated books! Your generosity meant that every child was able to choose a new book to take home.
The Travelling Book Fair were well supported and raised £386 across both school to buy new books for the libraries!
